How to Make a Wedding Bouquet with Fresh Flowers

One of the most important memories in a woman's life is her wedding. Everything must be perfect for this special day, especially the wedding bouquet. Fresh flowers will help make the perfect bouquet.

There are three basic shapes of flowers that the bride carries. The sheath is the easiest to create. These are long stem flowers that are laid across the arm rather than carried in front of the bride. The round bouquet is the most popular. The cascade is a bouquet that is wide on top and tapers to a point at the bottom.

The sheath bouquet usually consists of long stemmmed roses and calla lilies. The following supplies are needed:

Trim all the leaves off the roses . Start by placing one rose on the table. Underneath this rose place two more with the top of the buds touching the bottom of the first flower.Continue this until the roses are finished.Try not to make it more than six inches wide so it will sit comfortably on the arm. Add the three calla lilies placing one on each side and the third on top. Wrap the floral wire around the stems. Start at the top keeping the wire tight so the stems do not shift. Stop about two inches from the bottom. Trim the stems to the length desired. Taking the ribbon begin to wrap it around the wire. Hot glue the ends to keep from undoing. Finish by placing pieces of baby's breath or pearl sprays between the roses. Tie the tulle around the top of the wire letting the ends trail down.

The cascade and the round wedding bouquets are made with a bouquet holder. The handle for the round bouquet is straight while the cascade has a a curved handle. Twelve to eighteen fresh flowers of the same length are needed along with twelves stems of greenery such as ivy or fern. The flowers will be different than the sheath and the bouquet holder will be used instead of the floral wire. The rest of the supplies will remain the same. The flowers should be soaked in a perservative and the foam in the holder must be saturated before starting. For a round bouquet trim all the flowers and greenery to the same length. Holding the handle start by making a circle of greenery at the bottom of the foam. Place a circle of baby's breath or pearl sprays on top of this. The flowers will be place on top of this. Place the flowers close together forming a tight circle. The flowers must all face the same direction. Fill in any spots with extra baby's breath. Tie the ribbon around the handle and glue. Add the tulle to the top of the bouquet allowing the ends to trail down.

Start the cascade bouquet by placing six pieces of greenery in a circle. The length of these will determine the size of the bouquet so they should be no longer than eight to ten inches. The seventh piece of greenery will be longer between twelve and fourteen inches. This piece will be on the bottom of the circle hanging straight down. Fill in the rest of the foam with pieces of greenery to create a background for the flowers. Place two flowers in the center facing out. The stems on these should be trimmed to about four inches. Working around the greenery start to place flowers. Place two at the top and two at the bottom hanging down over the greenery. Cut the stems to the length desired. Continue around the circle of greenery making sure the flowers face out away from the dress. Fill in with baby's breath or pearl sprays. Tie the ribbon around the handle and add the tulle.

Remember that the more elaborate the dress is, the simpler the bouquet should be. The bouquet handles can be decorated with crystals or small pearls. This will make the fresh flowers look fabulous for this special day.
